Avocado con Yelo is an effortless and refreshing summer Filipino dessert that you need to try. Made with ripe avocadoes, sweetened with vegan condensed milk, and lots of shaved ice! It’s the perfect summer treat. Please don’t knock it until you try it!
What is Avocado con Yelo?
Avocado con yelo means, “avocado with ice”, similar to mais con yelo or halo-halo.
So this particular Filipino layered dessert is made with ripe avocadoes, vegan sweetened condensed milk, non-dairy evaporated milk, shaved ice, and sugar. However, there are different variations of this dessert. Some eat it more like cereal with ice cubes, while others eat it with different mix-ins.
But my mom would make this with condensed milk, avocadoes, ice cubes (or shaved ice, if someone had a machine), and extra sugar. As a kid, I would ask my mom to make this for me every night. I think I had a major phase because I remember my mom constantly shaving ice for me every night just to make this dessert for me. It was just so addicting!

✏️Ingredient Notes
- Avocado - Be sure that your avocado is soft and ripe enough to use.
- Non-dairy evaporated milk - Using evaporated milk adds to the creaminess and flavor. My favorite brand to use is Nature’s Charm.
- Granulated sugar - Because avocado is naturally unsweet, we’ll be adding extra sugar. Trust me you'll need it.
- Vegan-sweetened condensed milk - Condensed milk isn’t the main sweetener in this recipe. While it does add sweetness, in the Philippines, they usually use this as a drizzle on top. My favorite brand to use is Nature’s Charm.
- Vegan Vanilla Ice Cream - Ice cream isn’t traditionally used in avocado con yelo, but I wanted to make this a little bit more special.

- If you don’t have a shave ice machine you can either:
- Make frozen crushed milk, which consists of mixing non-dairy milk, sugar, and condensed milk in a freezer-safe bag. Frozen overnight, then crushed. It won’t be the same as shaved ice, but it’s a good alternative; or enjoy it with just ice cubes. Imagine it like a cold avocado cereal!
