Avocado con Yelo is a ridiculously easy and refreshing summer Filipino dessert that you need to try now! Made with ripe avocadoes, sweetened with vegan condensed milk, and lots of shaved ice! It’s the perfect summer treat. Please don’t knock it until you try it!
What is Avocado con Yelo?
So, if you’re reading this, you probably haven’t heard of this Filipino dessert. Basically, it means, avocado with ice. This layered dessert is made with ripe avocadoes, vegan condensed milk, shaved ice, milk, and sugar. However, there are different variations of this dessert. One could be ripe mashed avocadoes, condensed milk, and ice cubes, and other ways could be made with shaved ice with lots of mix-ins.
My mom would make this with condensed milk, avocadoes, ice cubes (or shaved ice, if someone had a machine), and extra sugar. As a kid, I would never forget asking my mom to make this for me every night. I think I had a major phase because I remember my mom constantly shaving ice for me every night just to make this dessert for me. It was just so addicting!
What you’ll need for Avocado con Yelo:
Ripe avocadoes
Vegan condensed milk
Non-dairy milk
Sugar
Ice
Vegan Vanilla Ice Cream (If you want to be extra)
My biggest top tip:
If you’re lucky, you might know someone with a shaved ice maker, then problem solved! But if you’re like most people and me, you won’t have that, but you will have a nice high-speed blender. So, I thought of a cool hack to create “shaved-ice” using a blender or even a food processor!
All you’re going to do is combine your milk (in this case, I used non-dairy milk), sugar, condensed milk (vegan), and ice cubes and blend it at high speed. Then you should have a nice fluffy-shaved ice consistency. More like a smoothie, if you will. Obviously, if you want more ice, just add and continue to blend!
I hope you guys try out this recipe this summer, it’s so good and so refreshing. You won’t regret it! If you tried this recipe, let me know what you think in the comments below. You can also share it with me on Instagram, just tag @flouredframe. I would love to see your recreations!
This version of Avocado con Yelo is a bit fancier than how it’s typically made!
Ingredients
Scale
Milk Shaved Ice
1/2 cup – non-dairy milk, I used soy
1/4 cup – sugar
1/4 cup – vegan condensed milk, I used Nature’s Charm Coconut Condensed Milk
2 cups – ice cubes
Toppings:
2 avocado, ripe
Vegan Condensed Milk
Optional: Vegan vanilla ice cream
Equipment:
High-speed blender
2 cups for serving
Instructions
Make your milk shaved ice. In a high-speed blender, combine the non-dairy milk, sugar, coconut condensed milk, and ice cubes. Blend until you get a shaved-ice-like consistency.
Assemble. In a bowl, combine your milk shaved ice, diced avocados, and drizzle with more vegan condensed milk! You want this to be sweet! And if you want to get a little bit fancy, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
Notes
If you can’t find condensed milk, add 1/4 cup more sugar to your milk shaved ice mixture.
No blender? You can simply just combine the milk, sugar, and condensed milk together and use ice cubes! This is how it’s traditionally eaten.
