Fall isn’t complete without a delicious and sweet pumpkin spice syrup to add to your coffee or tea! So easy to make and you only need a few pantry-friendly ingredients! So much better than the artificial stuff you get at the stores or even at the coffee shops. And instead of wasting your money on artificial sweeteners, why not save money and make your own? Not only does it taste way better but it’s also better for you, sort of. I’m telling you, this is the only pumpkin spice syrup you’ll need for this season.
Yes, I am one of those people who love their pumpkin spice lattes during the fall season. It just puts me in the fall spirit and makes me excited for the leaves to change and the temperature to drop. However, this year, I’ve tried multiple pumpkin spice lattes from various coffee shops and I could not stand the taste. Some of them tasted off, nothing resembling pumpkin spice at all. And some of them were just overly sweet and tasted super artificial. So, I decided to make my own. I mean, I had to, I couldn’t stand it anymore!
What can I make with pumpkin spice syrup?
If it isn’t obvious enough, you can easily make a pumpkin spice latte with this syrup! Additionally, if you live in a warmer climate, you can also make a pumpkin cream cold brew. All so very delicious, and it’s so easy to make. I’ll link the recipes below!
Ingredients & Substitutions
Brown Sugar – I love using dark brown sugar for this recipe because it gives the syrup a nice caramel flavor, but you can substitute it for coconut sugar, cane sugar, or even light brown sugar. I have not tried this with agave or maple syrup, so I can’t say that it will work the same.
Pumpkin Puree – It’s not pumpkin spice syrup without pumpkin! I used canned pumpkin puree, if you want to puree your own pumpkin, you can do that as well. I’m just not sure if it will alter the taste. Please avoid using pumpkin pie filling.
Pumpkin Spice – I personally buy premade pumpkin spice from the store, but you can easily make your own spice mix.
Vanilla extract/paste – Adds a nice balance of flavor to the syrup. I love adding vanilla paste because it just brings out a better flavor, but you can certainly use vanilla extract.
That’s it, that’s all you need! To make it even easier, simply combine all the ingredients in a saucepan and simmer for a couple of minutes. Then, let it cool to get thick and syrupy, and you’re done! I’m telling you, you’re not gonna want any of those artificial syrups once you make this. It’s so easy to make and way cheaper.
